Two gunmen were killed and seven arrested Monday (February 25th) in a military operation carried out by the army forces in Anbar province, the Iraqi army said.
"A military force attacked a former military building in al-Tal al-Akhdhar area, Wadi Horan, east of Haditha," Iraqi army spokesman in Anbar Lt. Col. Najm al-Dulaimi told Al-Shorfa.
The force "was met with heavy fire, prompting it to respond, killing two al-Qaeda gunmen and arresting seven others", al-Dulaimi said.
"One prominent al-Qaeda gunman" is among the detainees, he said.
"The force found a weapons cache inside the building containing 21 IEDs, 272 mortars and other weapons and explosives," he said.
"Four soldiers were wounded during the clash and had to be taken to a military hospital for treatment," he said. "Meanwhile, the seven detainees were taken to a security detention facility for investigation before they will face terrorist charges."
