The Iraqi police on Wednesday (February 20th) arrested 12 suspected al-Qaeda gunmen in a security operation in Rubaia, west of Mosul, the capital of Ninawa province.
"A unit from the Ninawa police's counter-terrorism force raided three residential buildings in Abar Rubaia, Rubaia district, and succeeded in arresting 12 gunmen," Ninawa police spokesman Col. Khalid al-Hamdani told Al-Shorfa.
Two of the detainees hold Arab nationalities, he said.
During the raid, police seized two explosives vests, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weapons and explosives weighing 685 kilogrammes from the buildings, he said.
Four members of the security forces were wounded in a clash with some of the gunmen, he said.
