Army forces on Tuesday (February 19th) destroyed four ammunition and explosives depots and arrested seven gunmen during a military operation in Ninawa province, the Iraqi Defence Ministry said.
Ministry spokesman Col. Dhia al-Wakeel told Al-Shorfa the army forces found the depots in Hadhar peninsula, 129 kilometres southwest of Mosul.
The four buildings contained large quantities of different explosives, weapons and ammunition, he said, which the army detonated on site without causing any human or material losses.
The seven men arrested were found inside the buildings, he said.
"Al-Qaeda was using these explosives to carry out arbitrary terrorist attacks targeting citizens and security personnel," al-Wakeel said.
