Suspected al-Qaeda members on Tuesday (February 19th) killed a prominent Sahwa leader in Madaen district, southern Baghdad province, police said.

Gunmen attacked "the house of Riad Jawad, military commander of the Madaen Sahwa forces, and killed him, his son and one of his bodyguards", Madaen emergency police chief Lt. Col. Saad al-Jumaili told Al-Shorfa.

"The gunmen burnt the house after the attack, before they escaped," he said.

"Initial investigations indicate that al-Qaeda is involved in the attack, which is part of a series of attacks targeting Sahwa [forces] in Iraq," he said.
