Saudi officials on Friday (February 1st) sent more humanitarian aid to more than 5,000 Syrian refugees in camps in Jordan's Irbid province, Saudi Arabia's Okaz reported Saturday.

The aid comprised 50 trucks loaded with blankets and sleeping bags, among other supplies, and was distributed among Syrians suffering from difficult weather conditions in the region, according to an official statement.

The statement said a similar convoy is scheduled to be dispatched to Jordan's Ajloun province in the coming days.

Thanks to you all. I am from Syria but what are the conditions of Syria? I live inside Syria and we need many aids but? God would help us. Please, help us in all possible ways. We die inside and outside.

Certainly the humanitarian aid that reaches the Syrian refugees in Jordan will not be the suitable solution for the Syrians; absolutely not. Quite the contrary, Syrians must depend upon themselves and help themselves. They have left their country and chosen to live in Jordan, and Saudi Arabia played an important role in helping the Syrian refugees. It delivered a lot of aid, so that the Syrian refugees are able to live. What is happening to them is enough. It breaks my heart to see small children who can't even find suitable winter clothes to protect them from the cold. Really, we must be aware that Syria needs help. God bless Saudi Arabia, which was not late in sending assistance to the Syrians, and because the Saudis are generous people and hurried to help the Syrian people right away.

One really doesn't know what to say to the honorable people of Saudi Arabia. They are people who know God in their human relations, and they definitely feel for their fellow Syrian refugees in Jordan, as they are in the desert without blankets to kep them warm or a house to protect them. And the fifty trucks will truly make a difference for them, because they will be loaded with goods provided by God. We hope to God that these goods are distributed fairly, so that everyone can benefit from the Saudi Arabian aid until they can get more help from other Arab countries. I hope to God that their hearts soften towards their fellow Syrians.

Despite the fact that fifty trucks will not be enough for the large number of Syrian refugees in Jordan, we still commend the Saudi effort in providing that aid to the refugees. I confess that all of the Arab countries have fallen short in aiding those innocent Syrian people, and that aid should have been faster and in much greater quantity. I feel that there is a lot of timidity in providing the necessary help, even by Saudi Arabia, because it was expected that there would be much more aid than this. More importantly, blankets are not the only thing that is needed, for winter is almost over, so they will no longer be needed, but I would not want to take the efforts of the Saud Arabians lightly, for we greatly appreciate and admire them. However, I wish that the aid could be increased on the part of the Saudi Arabians, Kuwaitis, Emiratis, Qataris, Bahrainis, and Omanis; those countries especially, because they have not been affected by revolutions or poverty. They must coordinate among themselves to distribute duties, such as a variety of services in assistance to those refugees, if the intention is there to begin with.

Poverty is the main issue; everyone knows that it is pursuing and raiding the Syrian refugees everywhere they go. They left everything in their country, and just ran away with their lives and bodies, fleeing from the shelling, bombing and murder by Bashar. They did not even take a cover to protect themselves from the winter. Actually, the Saudi state, by rendering this aid, really understood what the Syrian refugees want. They predicted the extreme poverty and extreme cold that the Syrians refugees would face in Jordan, and the atmospheric changes that took place, and the fact that the Syrian refugees couldn't keep themselves warm. We thank Saudi Arabia for this great effort, as the blankets and camps are the most important thing for the Syrian refugee now. Actually, we want the other Arabs to help and support the vulnerable Syrians in these recent bitter times.

It is the best Arab country and we all applaud its support and help for its Arab brethren and for its ability to improve their situation. Saudi Arabia believes that the Syrians are very deserving of its help, but the problem is that most Syrians are not inside their country. They have left their country for other countries like Iraq, Egypt, Jordan and many other countries. Jordan has been at the forefront in welcoming massive numbers of Syrian refugees. But we must realize that the Syrians really need help from Saudi Arabia since no other country can help them. This due to Saudi Arabia’s high income and that is why Saudi Arabia has managed to dispatch huge amounts of aid and relief to the Syrian refugees. Therefore, we must all pay tribute to Saudi Arabia and to all those who helped the Syrian people even if negligibly.

Since Saudi Arabia enjoys a strong economy, it is really assuming the role of the Big Brother who is standing by his brothers at hard times. Sincerely, the KSA has never remained cross-handed before in any of the different Arab cases. In this respect, here it is sending blankets and tents to the Syrian refugees in Jordan especially that the latter desperately need urgent aid because of the late weather changes and the advent of the Hussoum storm which brings violent atmospheric storms every year. We would like frankly to thank Saudis for their patience and understanding of this issue before the advent of the Hussoum storm.

Syrian refugees in Jordan have various demands namely food, drinks and clothes. As a result, Jordanian officials will not be able to meet all their demands. Therefore, Saudi Arabia has sent a lot of human aid to these Syrian refugees such as tents and blankets to protect them from cold. So, we should thank the KSA for these acts.

Saudi Arabia plays a key role in helping the Syrian refugees in Jordan. The KSA knows the large number of the refugees who enter Jordan daily, so it assessed the situation correctly and sent the aids to those who need them. Saudi Arabia saw that the conditions of the Syrian refugees in Jordan are very difficult because of the cold weather and thus it sent these aids. May God help and bless the officials who were behind this move and we wish that this would also happen in Lebanon and Iraq because the Syrian refugees in these sates need help as well. We ask God for help and we are sure that the Saudi state will always help its brothers.

Obviously the officials in Saudi Arabia are trusted, confident people. They are distinguished by their ability to support and give instant help whenever there is any disaster that occurs in the Arab world. What happened in Syria is a major catastrophe, because every day there are different Syrian victims. Therefore, groups of Syrians went to Jordan for protection there, but because of the increasing numbers of refugees, Saudi Arabia is granting a great deal of aid to them in Jordan. Many thanks to all these Arabs.

The Saudi authorities exert great efforts in order to send aid to the Syrians in Jordan, because it is known, of course, that they were exposed to various sorts of torture in their country. Their decision to flee to Jordan was not planned or imagined, but they were obliged to run away, searching for rescue from Bashaar El Assad's tyranny and from his soldiers. Therefore, there was no other way but to escape to Jordan. So, the large number of Syrians in Jordan will be a burden on the officials in Jordan, and they will not be able to offer the proper services, which are required to fulfill the Syrians' needs. Therefore, Saudi Arabia had to send help. I thank Saudi Arabia for their efforts, and I really wish the crisis were solved; this is enough.

We all seek protection under the banner of Arabism. We do not know if we really can help the Syrians or not. Even if we gave them some assistance, it must be after negotiations and with the knowledge of all the people. So helping the Syrians requires study and accuracy to make sure that these subsidies reach the Syrian people. It is worth noting that the officials in Saudi Arabia undertake all required procedures to find the right opportunity to reach the largest possible number of Syrian people, so these subsidies may reach them. There are a lot of places where there are Syrians who die, because no one can reach them as a result of the severe clashes between the opposition and the forces of the regime. As a result, I'd like to salute the Saudi authorities for assisting the Syrians, because it is really an Arab duty for all the Arabs; but usually Saudi Arabia is the first one to contribute to it.

Saudi Arabia has always honored everyone, as a genuine homeland caring about Arabism and the Arab brotherhood. We must always salute them, because they explicitly play their true roles; this demonstrates the vital attitude of King Abdullah Al Saud. He is a true leader and a true man who empathizes with the conditions of the Syrians, because his help to the Syrians did not stop and is being witnessed by everyone. He deserves all respect and appreciation, and he will always be the Man of the Arabs in our minds, because with his attitude towards the Syrian refugees in Jordan and in every Arab country, he always makes us feel that he is the compassionate father towards his sons everywhere.

I really appreciate the solidarity between the Arab countries. The Arab nations do not hesitate to provide support to the other brotherly countries in times of hardship. In this respect, Saudi Arabia pioneered in sending humanitarian aids to the Syrian refugees in Jordan. One could not imagine the suffering of the displaced Syrians in the current winter which is characterized by bitter cold, thunder and snow in Jordan, especially in the past days. Indeed, the camps almost collapsed. Thus, the Syrian refugees spent terrible nights in the open without any cover. For this reason, Saudi Arabia sent blankets and camps. We should thank the Saudi authorities for helping the refugees. Their aids were really priceless for the Syrian refugees in Jordan and in other parts of the world. The refugees are currently concerned with noting but finding camps and blankets in this cold winter. They are really suffering. May Allah help them to return to their country safely.

What do a few blankets mean? Are they going to humiliate the refugees for some blankets? They are supposed to act and do more than this; they have too much money to spend! What's this? They should build palaces for them, because we are Arabs and we are brothers, and whoever does not sympathize with his Arab brother will be deprived of welfare by God! I swear I remember the days when the cover of the Ka'ba used to be sent from Egypt when Saudi Arabia was very poor; they are supposed to support this oppressed people, whether in Jordan or any other place, because Syrians are everywhere and, O God, they can't get bread. If you don't believe me, just go out and search for the Syrians; you'll find them everywhere in any Arab country. They are suffering miserably; the king of Saudi Arabia should have played his role in the Syrian issue, not just send some blankets.

I'd like to salute the Saudi officials for the big role they play in any incident or crisis in any Arab country, so it is quite logical that Saudi Arabia is the first one to lend a hand. I was highly impressed by the Saudi attitude when they helped the Syrian refugees in Jordan. That is, they did not help the Syrians in their country; to the contrary, they realized that they must help Jordan to help the Syrian refugees, because they really need care. This puts them in the forefront of solving the Syrian crisis, as solving this crisis comes from the Syrians themselves, so there is no doubt about this. I greet the Syrian people and wish they could get rid of Bashar's regime.

The waves of Syrian refugees are increasing enormously in Jordan. We are amazed at the places and camps of the refugees. The tents are very small, but for them, these small tents are like palaces, because they could not get another chance. So, Jordan is the first country that welcomed and helped those refugees, and the officials are doing what others did not do in other countries. Therefore, it is quite natural that the budget to help these refugees must be proper, according to the budget of Jordan, as an allotted budget for the refugees. Thus all the officials in Saudi Arabia were inspired to send good help for the Syrian refugees. They did not wait for groups of refugees to reach Saudi Arabia, but they sent them all assistance, and so all thanks to the government of Saudi Arabia.

I think that the Saudi state with all its royalty must be wiser, as the Syrian issue will never be solved with blankets and sleeping bags or camping gear. If this is done by the state, it is necessary, or if this is done by the officials, may God reward them. But what is important is: where is the King’s role in solving the Syrian issue? We feel that every country is now going following its own interests, without any consideration for brotherhood among Arabs. You must meet Bashar, King Abdullah. Syrians are being killed, and there must be a serious reaction by a wise man like you. You will have great prestige among the Arabs. Bashar must be confronted and he must realize that there are people who can stop him.

The role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in sending these subsidies and aid is a very important one, because the situation of the refugees in Jordan has deteriorated significantly. And we would like there to be better care for this. We want it to be well known that there are a lot of refugees throughout the state of Jordan who have been displaced and who are returning to their country again. Some of them have tried to go to other places, due to the great negligence which they find in Jordan. This means that the state of Saudi Arabia is showing Arab solidarity. We thank it for what it is doing, and we want more. Because we are not in a heroic role now, we all have to work to provide for the Syrians; this is the biggest issue for us now in the Arab world, because I believe that the same thing has happened to the Palestinians over decades, but even they did not experience what has been happening to the Syrians in the last two years.

I present my warmest congratulations to the authorities in Saudi Arabia for their great concern for the situation in Syria. In addition to aiding the Syrians in Syria, they are also doing all that they can to do in order to offer material support to the Syrian refugees in Jordan, because the latter need these aids. It is known that the Syrians are fleeing their country to the neighboring countries, and since the Jordanian people are a noble and generous people, the Syrians have chosen to seek refuge in Jordan so that they can get more help, because they have not received any of their dues in their homes in Syria, and they have left their possessions behind, but they have fled with all that they have in their hearts in terms of fear and anxiety about the future, because they wanted to save themselves from death at the hands of Bashar Al-Assad, and this will not be possible except with sacrifice for the sake of life. So, I thank the Saudi government for understanding the situation.

The KSA is carrying out charities in all Arab countries. In fact, it is not coincidence that the KSA carries out such charity acts in favor of the Syrian refugees in Jordan given that they represent a large number and they need to be cared for. In addition, I hope that the KSA will grant aid to Syrian refugees in Iraq and Lebanon because of the cold weather and some of them are sleeping in the open. Besides, I hope that some Arab countries will feel the pains of these refugees and make humanitarian efforts like Saudi Arabia. They should not wait for any instructions from anyone like the KSA which has come up with a solution without the guidance of any party. Thus, we have frankly to commend the Saudi Government since this was not its first aid but a series which we hope they will not come to an end, God willing, in order to show mercy to all the Syrians who have been harmed in all Arab or non-Arab countries.

Long live the Saudi State, the first supporter of the Syrian refugees everywhere in the Arab region. I am very proud of the State of Saudi Arabia for its provision of humanitarian aids to refugees in Jordan. Indeed, I work in Jordan and I know how the Syrians here are suffering, especially in the cold or rainy times. Those vulnerable people are in desperate need for aids. Still, we expect Saudi Arabia and also other countries in a position to send even more aids because the number of refugees is increasing and the situation is very critical.

There is no doubt that Saudi Arabia is the mother of all the Arab states, which always seek to save the Arabs and contribute to solving the crises of all the Arab states. Probably, the Syrian crisis is the worst crisis in the Arab world. What is happening in Syria is sorrowful and heartbreaking. We are very sorry for what is happening in Syria because the people committed no guilt to be treated so brutally. Hence, it is natural for the Saudi authorities to contribute to solving the Syrian crisis and ending this ordeal. We want to help Syria restore its status and has its leadership that express its people. Helping the Syrians is not in Syria but in Jordan where there are many refugee camps for the Syrians. We need to find the suitable solution because we cannot meet the needs of the huge number of Syrians.

The number of the Syrian refugees to the Arab states increases because they escape to save themselves from the countless violations in Syria that the world countries condemn. Hence, the whole world must help the Syrians and many Syrian families have escaped for Jordan in search for shelter and hoping that God would save them from the treachery there. They wanted to live in peaceful atmosphere, but the problem is with the refugees in Jordan. They enjoy security but they need some financial aids, foods, drinks, and tents. The needs increase because the number of the Syrians increases too. Therefore, the Saudi authorities have sent aids to those Syrians in Jordan to help them.

Saudi Arabia is a country that does many good things, and that is why God has blessed Saudi Arabia, its people and its rulers. In my opinion, it is not the first time that Saudi Arabia sends aid and relief to the Syrian refugees in Jordan. Saudi Arabia has donated funds that would be spent on building houses for Syrian refugees and I’m not being a hypocrite. I also hope that the other Gulf States will follow suit and will do something for Syrian refugees in Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Lebanon. They all need help really. Also, Kuwait has organized a Conference of Donor Countries, which means that there are also other countries that should take action. This is because we are all brothers and we must all play a political and financial role in this crisis. I wish that we will soon be done with this issue.

  • فريدة سيف الدين

    2013-2-8

Honestly, I was expecting more from Saudi Arabia since what is happening in Syria warrants more than simply sending in some blankets or tents to the Syrian refugees in Jordan by Saudi Arabia. I was really expecting the Arabs to hold conferences in order to find solutions to the Syrian crisis. I believe that Egypt should have played this role, but we all know the unfavorable conditions that Egypt is going through. Therefore, we were hoping that Saudi Arabia would take the lead at this juncture to converge the views of Arabs for the sake of Syrians and their future. But not all problems can be resolved through financial means and even if money should play a role in this issue, they could have done better than sending blankets and tents. The reason is that sending blankets and tents will make things seem that we are dealing with a crisis that resulted from an earthquake. Hence, these relief efforts are temporary until we stumble upon the ultimate solution for this problem. Until then, is there any solution that could be of any avail to these helpless Syrian refugees in Jordan and elsewhere?

I was treated with love and kindness when I was performing the Omrah in Makkah or Madinah; therefore, helping the Syrian refugees is not strange! We appreciate all the efforts of the Saudi officials who always do the right thing. I wish that the dignity of Syrian people would be protected even if they were refugees. We have to treat them well because no one accepts that his Arab brothers be treated in this way. However, we need more and more efforts to be exerted to help the Syrians. Saudi Arabia is exerting all possible efforts to help all the Syrian refugees in Jordan. The Saudi officials will not neglect that mission, which their sense of Arabism demands. I am proud because of the efforts of the Saudi people and I hope that all the Arab states would do the same thing to help our brothers in Syria. We thank and appreciate all the Arab efforts because Syria needs supplication, material, and moral aids. The Syrian crisis is very deep and we need to put an end to it and save Syria from the suppression of Bashar Al-Assad.

I swear to God, I was thinking about the Syrian refugees last week when the weather was colder and stormy. I felt secure in my home and I remembered our Syrian brothers, who are living in camps out in the open. I remembered the last storm and asked myself about them then! Truly, reading this news, I see that many Arabs, especially Saudis, must be commended and appreciated, and we must insist that other Arabs do as the Saudis did. The biggest number of Syrian refugees is in Jordan, and help must be offered to them during the severe winter. This is not sympathy or kindness; this is our duty as Arabs. All thanks to the Saudis who did this noble, charitable work, and we hope we see more help for the refugees inside and outside Jordan!

I speak honestly, because this is a great gesture on part of the Saudis towards the Syrian refugees in Jordan. The Syrian refugees need aids continually because they are quickly consuming all the aids that they are receiving since their numbers are huge and increasing in Jordan. However, I greet the Jordanian officials for their efforts in servicing the Syrian refugees. Anyway, these efforts will not suffice all the needs of the Syrians refugees. Hence, the officials in Saudi Arabia always seek to help the Syrians people and they offer them humanitarian aids, hoping that they would contribute relatively to solving the crisis of the Syrian refugees in Jordan.
