Iraqi army arrests 19 wanted terrorists near Baghdad

Iraqi security forces on Tuesday (January 22nd) and Wednesday arrested 19 gunmen wanted in connection with terrorist attacks carried out in 2012, the defence ministry said Thursday.

An army force carried out three separate operations in al-Yusufiyyah, al-Mahmoudiyyah and al-Latifiyah and arrested the 19 Iraqis, according to Maj. Gen. Nasser al-Ghannam, commander of the Iraqi army's 17th Division.

All are wanted by the Iraqi judiciary in connection with several terrorist crimes, he told Al-Shorfa.

The army force seized 34 SPG-9 missiles, 41 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 38 bombs it found in the detainees' possession, he said.
