Ninawa provincial police said Thursday (January 24th) it arrested four suspected al-Qaeda gunmen in a security operation in northern Mosul, the province capital.

Police arrested the men at a residential building in the neighbourhood of al-Mualemeen after they received reports the men had attempted to recruit a teenager to carry out terrorist operations, police spokesman Col. Khalid al-Hamdani told Al-Shorfa.

The father of the teenager, who is a 16-year-old boy, told security forces about the four men and called on them to protect his son, al-Hamdani said.

Police found weapons and explosives believed to have been used for training and demonstration purposes in the detainees' possession, he said.
