Jabhat al-Nusra (JAN), a jihadist group active in Syria with ties to al-Qaeda, expelled foreign correspondents from a cultural centre in Saraqeb, Idlib and forbade unveiled women from entering areas under their control, NOW News reported Thursday (January 24th).

NOW quoted Ahmad Kaddour, a spokesman for Sham News Network, as saying JAN will prohibit foreign journalists from entering areas under its control. Female Syrian journalists are required to wear a veil, he said, adding that the organisation announced it preferred male journalists.

"What JAN did will not pass, and you will see tomorrow the reaction of the residents of Saraqeb against it," Kaddour said.
