The Iraqi police have arrested 10 suspected al-Qaeda gunmen and seized weapons in operations carried out alongside army forces, the Iraqi police in Basra province said Tuesday (December 18th).

One Turk and one Pakistani are among the 10 detainees, and all are wanted by the courts in several cities across Iraq in accordance with article 4 of the anti-terrorism law, Basra police chief Maj. Gen. Faisal al-Ibadi told Al-Shorfa.

"The Iraqi forces seized light weapons found in the gunmen's possession, as well as fake IDs and important information for the security forces," he said.

Al-Ibadi said the detainees were members of al-Qaeda.
