The foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Friday (December 14th) opened the International Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism in Abu Dhabi, Emarat al-Youm reported Saturday.

The fact the UAE is hosting this centre embodies the principle of tolerance – which is contrary to violent extremism – that the country is embracing, the newspaper quoted Al Nahyan as saying in his speech at the inauguration ceremony.

The centre is slated to focus on important fields such as diplomacy by way of sports and culture, countering violent extremism through educational curricula, rejecting radicalism in prisons and supporting terrorism victims, he said.
