A man wearing an explosives vest on Wednesday (December 12th) blew himself up at the Tasfeerat prison in al-Rusafa, central Baghdad, killing three and wounding five, police said.

"The suicide bomber managed to pass a checkpoint at the prison entrance during inmates' personal visit time, and blew himself up near cell No. 9," said Lt. Col. Hadi Saadoun al-Sobeihi of the Baghdad-al-Rusafa police, blaming al-Qaeda for the incident.

Two security guards and a prisoner were killed in the incident, while three security guards and two prisoners sustained injuries of varying degrees.

Security forces imposed strict security measures following the incident and opened an investigation into the security breach with prison officials, al-Sobeihi said.
