The Iraqi army announced on Monday evening (December 10th) it arrested an "al-Qaeda leader" in the Hamam al-Alil area of southern Mosul, Ninawa province.

"Abu Ayoub al-Mosuli was behind several terrorist operations in Hamam al-Alil targeting security forces and civilians," said Maj. Gen. Ali al-Fraiji, commander of the Iraqi army's 2nd Division.

Police found important information in al-Mosuli's possession and are interrogating him pending his referral to the Iraqi judiciary, as per article four of the anti-terrorism law, al-Fraiji told Al-Shorfa.

The operation was based on intelligence local residents and Sahwa forces members provided to the security forces, he added.
