Sahwa leader, wife killed in attack south of Baghdad

Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen killed a prominent leader in the Sahwa forces and his wife on Saturday (December 8th) in an attack in south of Baghdad, the Iraqi police in Baghdad reported.

"Unknown gunmen stormed the house of Sheikh Abd Wakaa, military commander of al-Mahmoudiyah Sahwa forces, on Saturday morning and managed to kill him and his wife," said Lt. Col. Sabri Abdul Kareem, police chief in al-Mahmoudiyah, which is located 30 kilometres south of Baghdad.

Four suspects have already been arrested following a police investigation, he said.
