Iraqi Police arrested three suspected al-Qaeda gunmen on Tuesday (November 27th) in Wasit province, authorities said.
"A police force on Tuesday morning carried out a raid and search operation in a number of villages in al-Sewara, in the northern part of the province, and arrested the gunmen," Wasit police chief Maj. Gen. Hussein Habbouba told Al-Shorfa.
He described the detainees as "dangerous, al-Qaeda-affiliated and wanted by the Iraqi judiciary as per article 4 of the anti-terrorism law".
Police found the suspects in three residential buildings with a number of light weapons in their possession, Habbouba said.
He credited local residents with helping in the arrests by co-operating with security forces and said the detainees are now under investigation by police, pending their referral to the judiciary.
