The Iraqi government announced Wednesday (November 21st) it is allocating an additional nine billion Iraqi dinars ($7.7 million) to previously-approved funds that support the anti-al-Qaeda Sahwa forces.

"The move, approved by the Iraqi cabinet in Tuesday's session, aims to strengthen the capabilities of Sahwa forces who fight against al-Qaeda in different Iraqi cities and help the Iraqi armed forces," Iraqi government spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh told Al-Shorfa.

The increase "also seeks to raise their spirits and boost their relations with the central federal government as a united front fighting terrorism", he said.
