The Salaheddine police announced Monday (November 19th) it arrested three suspected al-Qaeda gunmen in a security operation north of Tikrit.
Police spokesperson Hasan al-Majmaie told Al-Shorfa a special police force raided a textile plant in al-Dorr town where three al-Qaeda gunmen were found.
The force found inside the plant a large underground weapons cache containing 385 landmines remnants from the former Iraqi army. The mines were used to target security forces after they were altered to be detonated by remote control devices, he said.
An army's engineering unit was summoned to remove the landmines for disposal, al-Majmaie said. Meanwhile, the gunmen were transferred to a security detention facility for investigation, pending their referral to the judiciary.
