Sheikh Lateef al-Obeidi, a tribal chief and prominent al-Qaeda critic, was killed Tuesday (October 30th) in an armed attack in Haditha, Anbar province, Iraqi police said.
"Gunmen believed to be affiliated to al-Qaeda attacked the house of Sheikh al-Obeidi […] using machine guns, killing him and wounding his son," Anbar police spokesperson Col. Rahim Zaban told Al-Shorfa.
"Al-Obeidi was killed because of his repeated calls for his tribesmen to combat terrorism," Zaban said.
