Iraq signed a memorandum of cooperation with Italy on Sunday (October 14th) to restore Iraq's archaeological sites and rehabilitate a number of Iraqi museums, the Iraqi government announced.
Government media advisor Ali al-Musawi told Al-Shorfa the agreement "is very important for Iraq."
It includes training Iraqi archaeological excavation teams in Italy, granting graduate study positions in Italian universities and creating an Italian-Iraqi cultural centre in Baghdad, he said.
Italy will also restore archaeological sites and rehabilitate a number of museums in Iraq, al-Musawi added.
The agreement was signed during a visit by Iraq's Tourism Minister Liwaa Sumaisem to Rome, al-Musawi said.
