Three policemen killed, two wounded west of Ramadi

Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen on Saturday (September 22nd) killed three policemen and wounded two others in an attack on a police checkpoint west of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, Iraqi police said.

"Gunmen believed to be from al-Qaeda attacked a police checkpoint with hand grenades and machine guns at 9 am today, killing three policemen and wounding two others," Anbar police spokesperson Col. Rahim Zaban told Al-Shorfa.

Police are verifying the identity of a gunman who was killed when the security forces confronted the attackers, Zaban said.

Security forces are also searching for five other attackers who fled the scene, he said.
