The Iraqi police arrested eight gunmen and seized weapons and explosives in a security operation in Fallujah Thursday (August 30th), police in Anbar province said.
"The security forces carried out a swift security operation, assisted by the army, after receiving intelligence about the presence of gunmen in southern Fallujah," Anbar Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar told Al-Shorfa.
The gunmen "were preparing to launch carefully-planned attacks aimed at important security targets in town using motorcycle bombs and suicide bombers", he added.
Kassar said security forces found the men in two buildings in Fallujah. They seized a cache containing 530 kilogrammes of explosives, shoulder-mounted missiles, improvised explosive devices, landmines and light weapons.
