The Vatican confirmed Monday (August 20th) that a scheduled visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Lebanon next month will occur despite renewed tensions in the country.
"The preparations for the visit are going ahead without any uncertainty on the part of the Vatican," said Federico Lombardi, a Vatican spokesman, according to AFP.
During his trip, scheduled for September 14th-16th, the Pope is expected to meet with various religious leaders in multi-faith Lebanon and emphasise the need for peaceful coexistence between Christian and Muslim communities in the Middle East.
