The Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) announced on Thursday (August 16th) that it suspended Syria's membership from the 57-nation body, AFP reported.
A statement issued at the end of the emergency OIC summit in Mecca said summit participants had "deep concern at the massacres and inhuman acts suffered by the Syrian people".
State-run Syrian newspaper Tishreen criticised the OIC, saying Thursday that the body is serving the "Western colonialist project" and its members support "terrorist groups", a term used by the regime for the armed opposition.

Violence is not the only way to solve the crises and build the democracies. The Arab region currently suffers from many political and social tensions during which there were many developments at several directions. In addition, the current conditions are complicated because the Arab people seek to achieve stability again, but the political, economic, and social conditions and the resulting suffering and serious troubles in all fields deprive them from achieving the stability. Hence, the peoples consider that this is a destiny and they usually let things go in their normal course. Nevertheless, some peoples continue doing their best to choose the best economic and political conditions, but they have not reached to the stage of laying the foundations of stable chosen regimes. However, the problem that faces the political currents is the rejection of the demands of reform. Of course, this may cause many crises that cause tensions that need positive approaches and effective methods to be solved so that we can end this chaos that afflicted the Arab region. That is because this chaos caused a state of insecurity and turbulences that would require the best practices and strategies to face them and achieve what we want. The Arab peoples seek to get rid of the oppression and injustice everywhere in general and in Syria in particular and the Arab society started thinking about the immediate interference, because the suppressive regime is unable to achieve any real gains on the ground. Meanwhile, the Free Syrian Army continues spreading and approaching success.

I find the Organization of the Islamic Conference identical to this story, which is: Once, there was a very big tribe living happily in welfare, and the people of the village used to gather every year to discuss the matters and affairs of the villagers. This meeting used to be held in a place decided by the dignitaries. They used to bear the burdens of travel each year; then they returned empty-handed for trivial reasons, which happens every year. One year, one of the elders refused to comply with one of the resolutions of the tribe, and he rebelled and started robbing, killing and assaulting the sanctities. The folks of the tribe held a meeting in a remote place. They left the village women and their children in the hands of that tyrant, and after travel and trouble and gossip and useless debates, they decided to prevent the tyrant from attending their annual meetings. But when they returned home, they found the tyrant had taken over their village, thrown out the bodies of their children and their wives, stolen their money and burned their homes. All that happened to them for one reason: they were busy talking when they needed to issue a deterrent punishment to that tyrant, but because they were cowardly and weak, they paid dearly. They deprived him of attending the meeting, while he dislocated them and killed their children. I wonder whether they punished him or rewarded him!
