Kuwait launches new strategy to combat extremism

Kuwait is launching a new strategy to combat extremism in the country's prisons and educational institutions, Kuwait's Al-Qabas reported Friday (August 10th).

The new strategy includes prisoner rehabilitation and re-integration into society, and promotes moderate curricula in schools and mosques, said Abdullah al-Barak, assistant undersecretary for the Islamic studies sector of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

He said officials want to provide prisoners with spiritual and religious education before they are released into society.

"Moderation in preaching is present in all curricula taught in the sector's departments," he said, adding that instilling moderation in society is the best way to combat extremism.

Terrorism is a phenomenon that has spread rapidly for years in the Arab countries, such as Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iraq. Terrorism is a result of the extremist ideas and beliefs that some people have imparted to the minds and hearts of the young people who have fallen under the control of such individuals. There is no doubt that it is a negative phenomenon, as we can see what is continuously happening in Iraq in terms of violence against the innocent members who are not guilty of anything, and the extremist ideology that is causing sedition between the Sunni and Shiite, the destruction of the installations, the death of innocent people and children, the vandalism of the economy, the halt of civilian life and the fact that the state of Iraq has become poor and underdeveloped. We appeal to everyone who is thinking about destroying himself, his family and neighbors or even his community, to be a means of construction, and not of destruction.
