The leader of an al-Qaeda terrorist cell and four of his escorts were killed Friday (August 3rd) in clashes with police, the Iraqi police in Anbar province said Saturday.
Anbar police spokesperson Col. Rahim Zaban told Al-Shorfa that police killed the number one most wanted terrorist in Anbar, Ahmed al-Diwan, in a clash in Rutbah Friday evening.
Al-Diwan is the main defendant in a case concerning the killing of 22 people in al-Nakheeb in July last year, he said.
Police killed al-Diwan's assistant Saadi al-Sabaa and three others. A police captain was also killed in the clashes, Zaban said.
