Five would-be suicide bombers and three security personnel died in a raid on a house in central Kirkuk Friday (August 3rd), security officials said.
"A joint army and police force surrounded a residential building after receiving tips that gunmen were there," said Kirkuk police spokesperson Col. Salam al-Jaf.
"When they tried to storm [the building], a suicide bomber blew himself up at the door of a house, killing three security personnel and two [would-be] suicide bombers with him," Al-Jaf said.
Security forces immediately opened fire on two other would-be bombers as they were about to blow themselves up, he added.
Al-Jaf told Al-Shorfa three of the dead bombers have been identified, including one who was described as an Arab national.
He said the bombers were planning to attack security forces in a market.
