Iraq gives Syrian refugees freedom to choose residence

The Iraqi government agreed on Tuesday (July 31st) to allow Syrian refugees the freedom to choose where they reside in Iraq and the freedom to leave their camps and move around the country.

The Iraqi government also agreed to give Syrian refugees the option to reside in Iraqi houses if house owners sponsor them under a sponsorship system, government spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh told Al-Shorfa.

In addition, the government granted Syrian refugees free access to health and medical services throughout the period of their stay in Iraq, he said.
