Seven Iraqis were killed and 25 others were wounded early Monday (July 30th) in a car bomb attack targeting a popular market in al-Miqdadiyah, Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, the Interior Ministry said.
"A car bomb parked on the roadside near a popular market exploded as citizens gathered near a popular café to watch the Olympics," said Col. Hikmat Mahmoud al-Masari, director of communications for the Interior Ministry.
"Seven Iraqis were killed, including two security personnel, and 25 others were wounded, including eight who are in serious condition," he said.
Al-Masari blamed al-Qaeda for the attack and said security forces opened an investigation into the incident.
