Iraqi army arrests Islamic State of Iraq members in Ninawa

Three army units arrested eight gunmen suspected of affiliation with the Islamic State of Iraq in a campaign conducted south of Mosul, the Ninawa operations command reported Saturday (July 14th).

The army units carried out the campaign in areas south of Mosul known as Saba Bashat and arrested the gunmen, who were hiding in two houses. They also found weapons and explosives during the operation, Lt. Col. Abdul Rahim al-Atwani, the command spokesperson, told Al-Shorfa.

Two years ago, the detainees' names were on the security forces' most wanted list, he said.

    The importance of arresting the terrorist leaders in Iraq resides in drastically weakening these organizations, and this could lead to their destruction and the complete dismantling of these groups.
