A Sawha forces leader and four of his family members were killed Friday (July 13th) when gunmen attacked on his house north of Hilla, Babil province, Iraqi police said.
"Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen attacked the house of Sheikh Hassan Dandoun, general commander of the Sahwa forces in Babil, in the town of Iskandariya, north of Hilla," said Lt. Col. Ali Abdullah al-Jurani of the Babil police.
"Dandoun has been one of the most prominent anti-al-Qaeda fighters in the province, and has scored several victories against its cells in the area," he told Al-Shorfa.
The gunmen tied up Dandoun, his wife and his three sons, and shot them execution-style before escaping, al-Jurani said.
