The Iraqi Ministry of Education on Tuesday (July 10th) issued a new list of instructions to middle and secondary boys' schools that seek to combat religious extremism.

The "ministry's instructions are directed towards Islamic education teachers to urge them to focus on teaching common values held among divine religions and sects within the same religion, developing such values in students, and explaining differences among [these values] in a way that will not lead to religious extremism and radicalism," said education minister Mohammed Tamim.

Tamim told Al-Shorfa that teachers who advocate religious extremism in their lessons will be dismissed from their job.

New syllabi that promote tolerance and dialogue and adopt a language of unity will also be added to religious curricula taught in socially and religiously diverse areas in Iraq, he added.

Some facts cannot be tolerated. How we can raise our children to combine the opposites? This is what can't be endured by the mind of both the old and the young! For example, if you say that this wall is white and at the same time it is black! How can I respect my mind and raise a generation that respects its mind?! I hope that those who are concerned in the Ministry of Education will review the historical materials that are included in the curricula of the intermediate and junior high students which are related to the Islamic education. These subjects urge our children to extremism; nevertheless these subjects are not classified as extremist! The opposite opinion is always the extremist. Please, Muslims, correct your ideologies; clean your history and rid it of lies, in order to raise a generation that respects itself and others!
