The office of EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton released a statement Sunday (July 8th) condemning the shelling of the Lebanese border area by Syrian artillery on Saturday, which left two girls dead and 10 other people wounded in northern Lebanon.
"The repeated incursions must stop immediately," the statement said. The statement also called on Syria to "respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of its neighbours."
Ashton also commended Lebanon for its support to Syrians fleeing the violence in their country and reiterated the EU's support to help Lebanon cope with this burden.
