Iraqi government temp-workers offered chance at permanent positions

The Iraqi cabinet has agreed to give all government employees working under temporary contracts the chance to become permanent employees, the government said Friday (July 6th).

Many state employees still working under temporary contracts and this "requires a radical solution", the government said in a statement obtained by Al-Shorfa.

Officials have allocated new job grades throughout government ministries, giving employees working under temporary contracts priority in changing their status to permanent staff, the statement said.

According to government statistics, there are as many as 320,000 employees working under temporary contracts and receiving daily wages.
