Iraqi security forces thwarted over 70 bombing attempts in June, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Monday (July 2nd).
According to ministry officials, security forces prevented 31 car bombs and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks, dismantled 43 IEDs and sticky bombs, and thwarted three missile attacks.
Security forces freed seven citizens in June and arrested 122 suspects on terrorism charges. Another 89 gunmen who were wanted by the judiciary were detained.
"The outcome of operations carried out by the Iraqi security forces, [including both the army and police] last month was high because of the ongoing threats and terror operations of al-Qaeda," Col. Hikmat Mahmoud al-Masari, director of media for the ministry, told Al-Shorfa.
