The Yemeni Defence Ministry said an al-Qaeda member was killed and nine others were arrested on Sunday (July 1st) during clashes in the south.
"Security forces thwarted an attempt by a group of terrorists to infiltrate al-Awabel in the Ash Shuayb dsitrict, Ad Dali province, early Sunday morning," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
"Clashes broke out between the two sides in which a leader of those fighters was killed, two were wounded, and nine others were arrested," said Brig. Gen. Ali Hammoud al-Emari, the security chief in Ad Dali.
A government soldier was also killed in the battle, the ministry said.
