Construction of a $122 million, 892-kilometre commercial road linking Jordan, Iraq and Turkey began Thursday (June 28th), Anbar province officials announced.

Muzhir Hasan al-Mulla, chairman of Anbar's investment committee, said Iraqi, Jordanian and Turkish companies began constructing the road and the project cost will be shared by all three countries.

The road begins in Rutbah on the Jordanian border, passes through Haditha and Ninawa province, and travels on towards the border between Turkey and Iraq to the Fish Khabour area in Erbil province, he said.

The road is expected to be completed in 18 months, and Iraqi labourers will be hired for construction, he said.
