Yemeni clerics emphasised the need to confront religious extremism, reject its proponents and help security forces confront terrorism, the official news agency (SABA) reported Friday (June 22nd).

In a unified sermon delivered Friday in cities nationwide religious scholars urged young Yemenis involved in operations with al-Qaeda to reconsider their positions and follow the path of true Islam.

They also urged Yemeni youth to reject strife, discord and divisions, embrace a culture of fraternity and promote tolerance and moderation.

The clerics also praised the achievements Yemeni troops made in combating terrorism.
