Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was in a coma on life support at a Cairo hospital Wednesday (June 20th), according to AFP.

A hospital employee and a member of Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces told the news agency Mubarak was on an artificial respirator.

The former president had been in the medical wing at the country's Torah civilian prison since he was sentenced June 2nd to life imprisonment for his role in the deaths of protesters last year. Doctors treated him with a defibrillator twice on June 11th, according to Al-Arabiya.

Since his transfer into the prison's medical wing Mubarak has suffered from high blood pressure and shortness of breath.
