Iraq approves pipeline deal with Jordan

Economy | 2012-06-12

The Iraqi government approved an agreement to construct an oil and gas pipeline to Jordan's Port of Aqaba, The Jordan Times reported Monday (June 11th).

Alaa Batayneh, Jordan's Energy Minister, said officials will sign the agreement next month and form a series of bi-annual ministerial committees and regular technical reviews as construction progresses.

The pipeline project is still in the planning stages and construction will require five years to complete.

Jordan is also considering gas imports from Qatar, and talks are scheduled for Tuesday with a Qatari delegation.
