Security forces arrested 16 suspected al-Qaeda fighters Monday (June 11th) in Mosul following a security operation, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.
"An Iraqi joint army-police force carried out a large-scale search operation in al-Sahel al-Ayman area of Mosul Monday morning after receiving intelligence about the entry of al-Qaeda gunmen to the area," Maj. Gen. Adil Daham, the ministry's spokesperson, told Al-Shorfa.
"While searching the houses, the unit arrested 16 individuals, including one Syrian, one Yemeni and one Sudanese," he added.
Security personnel found 23 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and a car bomb that was rigged for detonation, Daham added.
