Qatari judicial authorities ordered the arrest of the owner of the Villaggio Mall in Doha and four officials Tuesday (May 29th) following a fire that killed 19 people, including 13 children attending kindergarten in the mall, AFP reported.

Ali bin Fetais al-Merri, Qatar's attorney general, "ordered the imprisonment of the Villaggio Mall owner, the owner of the kindergarten, the mall manager, the assistant manager and the mall's assistant security director as part of investigations conducted by the public prosecution into the fire," the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

On Monday, a fire broke out on the first floor where the kindergarten was located. Children aged five years old and younger were in attendance. Triplets from New Zealand and three Spanish siblings were among the 13 children killed.

"The ministry had not given any licenses for operating a kindergarten or a nursery at Villaggio Mall," a source in the Ministry of Social Affairs told Qatar's Al-Raya.

The Italian-themed mall is one of the most well-known malls in the Gulf.
