Al-Qaeda gunmen arrested while trying to plant IED

Two al-Qaeda-affiliated gunmen were arrested while trying to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) on a public road in central Mosul, Iraqi police in Ninawa province said Friday (May 4th).

Col. Khalid al-Hamdani, Ninawa police spokesperson, said a security force received information from local residents about gunmen on Mosul's Tair Street planting an IED. Police arrested the suspects and defused the IED, he said.

Al-Hamdani said the gunmen admitted to belonging to al-Qaeda and were planning to assassinate a prominent local politician.

Our brothers in Iraq daily suffer from the crimes of terrorism and they are unable to eradicate it because the Iraqi Forces are not qualified to deal with terrorism as required. Iraqis suffer from many problems caused by terrorism. No sector has developed. The Iraqi Government can carry out the required reforms only after having eradicated terrorism. Iraqi citizens need the Security Forces to do their best so that Iraq regains its past position. Iraqis need to regain security and stability so that they can work on rebuilding their countries and developing many of the sectors that require many reforms. However, the Iraqi Government cannot carry out the required reforms in the absence of a safe and suitable atmosphere. The Iraqi Government must guarantee many rights for Iraqis to ensure a better future for them, especially as they suffered from many terrorist attacks that greatly affected them. Iraqis must cooperate with their Security Services in order to join efforts and fight terrorism and its ideas. This is in order to establish a good country free from terrorist crimes.

It has become very difficult for the terrorists to convince the young people to join the terrorist organization. Therefore, the terrorists decided to get rid of them and silence the voice of righteousness as well as make the elders and the clerics stop detecting and exposing the terrorists. However, they were shocked by the great insistence of the distinguished Sheikhs. They tried to threaten them more than once but this failed and they murdered a number of them. This also did not succeed but instead increased the insistence in facing the corrupt thought of terrorism. These elders already have been lost by us because they are really the origin of religion and its gate. Iraq still has plenty of them and they are determined to continue to fight against this organization. This is what they must do because every clergy and Sheik must take his responsibility that the true Islam ordered him to do in order to preserve the lives of the innocent people as well as the Muslim youth and raise their awareness.
