Tribal forces, fighting alongside the Yemeni army, killed 12 al-Qaeda fighters who attacked the city of Lawder, AFP reported Friday (May 4th).
The militants were killed on Thursday while they attacked the southern entrance to the town in Abyan province.
The forces belong to popular resistance committees and were supported by army artillery as they pushed al-Qaeda back.
Four civilians were also wounded when two mortars fired by al-Qaeda suspects struck the city.
