The Iraqi army arrested on Saturday (April 7th) 12 militants in a military operation in the Anbar desert, the Iraqi Defence Ministry said.

"A unit from the Iraqi army's 7th Division attacked an al-Qaeda hideout in the Huran mountain range in Anbar desert, west of Iraq, arresting 12 suspected al-Qaeda militants, including four from [various] Arab nationalities, and seizing explosives vests, two car bombs and light weapons" which were in the detainees' possession, Defence Ministry official spokesperson Maj. Gen. Mohammed al-Askari told Al-Shorfa.

Al-Askari said one soldier was killed in the attack when a landmine planted along the army road near the militants' hideout exploded.
