One gunman was killed and three others were arrested in a security operation carried out by the Iraqi army in Tal Afar district, west of Mosul, the Iraqi Defence Ministry said Thursday (April 5th).
"An army unit came under attack by four individuals using hand grenades and automatic guns while [the unit was] conducting a search operation in the industrial district in Tal Afar," Maj. Gen. Mohammed al-Askari, the official spokesperson for the Iraqi Defence Ministry, told Al-Shorfa.
"The Iraqi soldiers responded to the source of the fire, killing one gunman and surrounding three others, forcing them to surrender," he added.
Three army personnel, including an officer, were wounded in the clashes, al-Askari said. The men were transferred to a military hospital for treatment, he said.
