A Sahwa forces leader and two of his family members were killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) in northern Babil province, Iraqi police said Tuesday (March 27th).
Lt. Col. Jassim al-Awadi of Babil police said the attack occurred at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the town of Jurf al-Sakhr.
The assailants targeted the house of Sheikh Wahid Monjid al-Atabi, a prominent leader in Iraq's anti-al-Qaeda Sahwa forces.
The sheikh's house was almost fully destroyed in the blast, he added.
Al-Awadi said police began an investigation into the attack and arrested a suspect.
