Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will meet with Sergei Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister, to discuss Syria, al-Arabiya television reported Thursday (March1st).
Russia on Thursday confirmed it had agreed to discuss its approach to the Syria crisis with the Gulf foreign ministers, but denied that a firm date had been set.
Kuwait's foreign minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid al-Sabah said GCC countries will express their disappointment with Russia's position "and will urge Russia to take a stance that meets the Syrian people's aspirations".
The meeting comes after GCC countries, in particular Saudi Arabia, expressed their disapproval with Russia's veto in the UN Security Council against an international resolution supporting the Arab plan for Syria.
GCC countries announced last month that they were recalling their ambassadors from Damascus and expelling Syria's ambassadors.
