Eight gunmen wanted by the judiciary and four other suspects were arrested during a raid of a village along the Syrian border, Iraqi police in Anbar province said Saturday (February 18th).
Brig. Gen. Hadi Kassar, the Anbar police chief, told Al-Shorfa that police raided three buildings in al-Rommana village, al-Qaim district, west of Anbar, during a large-scale search operation to find al-Qaeda fighters in villages along the Syrian border.
The detainees are currently under interrogation, including a prominent al-Qaeda leader. Kassar said the police seized various weapons and explosives during the operation. Two policemen were wounded in an exchange of fire with the gunmen.
