Eight gunmen wanted by the judiciary and four other suspects were arrested during a raid of a village along the Syrian border, Iraqi police in Anbar province said Saturday (February 18th).

Brig. Gen. Hadi Kassar, the Anbar police chief, told Al-Shorfa that police raided three buildings in al-Rommana village, al-Qaim district, west of Anbar, during a large-scale search operation to find al-Qaeda fighters in villages along the Syrian border.

The detainees are currently under interrogation, including a prominent al-Qaeda leader. Kassar said the police seized various weapons and explosives during the operation. Two policemen were wounded in an exchange of fire with the gunmen.

The practices of al-Anbar security forces in Al Fallujah, Al Ramadi, Al-Qa'im cities showed their attack and defense abilities, their strategies to stop terrorist attacks and handle emergencies when they occur. The formation of Iraqi security forces went through different stages under very dangerous conditions due to the presence of terrorist groups in the past years, but the continuous efforts and courageousness of security men defeated terrorism. Iraqi security forces showed their experience in repelling hostile operations and terrorist groups targeting civilians and Iraqi forces as well. They managed to extend their control over all Iraqi territories and expel terrorists from them even though they suffered from a lack of equipment and coordination as achieving victory in the fight against terrorism does not depend on security forces only, but also on citizens.
