A senior police officer in Babil province and three members of his security detail were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting the convoy exploded in al-Iskandariya, north of al-Hilla, Iraqi police in Babil province said Saturday (February 11th).
Capt. Ahmed Derham of the Babil police told Al-Shorfa that an IED targeting Lt. Col. Salman Mohammed's vehicle exploded. Two security members were killed instantly. Mohammed and a third member of the security team both later died of wounds at the town's hospital.
Derham accused al-Qaeda of carrying out the attack that occurred on the road between his house and his office at the al-Rafidain police station in midtown al-Iskandariya, the province's largest city.
