Al-Qaeda's 'second-in-command' in Ninawa arrested

Muflih Marzouq al-Khaylani, al-Qaeda's second-in-command in Ninawa, was arrested with his aide during a military operation east of Mosul, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Tuesday (February 7th).

Maj. Gen. Mohammed al-Askari, an official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, told Al-Shorfa that al-Khaylani "was serving as emir of al-Qaeda in Haditha, Baiji and Tikrit and Mosul in previous years. He was promoted to become deputy emir of al-Qaeda in Ninawa province".

Al-Askari said al-Khaylani "is wanted in more than 68 major terrorism-related cases".
