Iraqi police arrested eight suspected al-Qaeda members during a raid on several residential buildings in southern Kirkuk province, officials said Thursday (February 2nd).

Lt. Col. Salam al-Jaf, a Kirkuk police spokesperson, said the campaign lasted for three hours as the police searched four residential buildings in the al-Gherr and al-Sour villages in Hawija district.

Al-Jaf told Al-Shorfa that the campaign was based on accurate intelligence that the security forces obtained from citizens and detainees.

He said the police found weapons, explosives, a car bomb and an explosives vest that was set to detonate.
